The Digidentity Wallet App only accepts ICAO-compliant identity documents. If your document does not meet these international standards, or lacks certain required features, it is most likely not supported.
What is an ICAO-compliant identity document?
To be accepted, a document must comply with the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) — specifically ICAO Doc 9303. These standards require:
- A Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) – a section with encoded personal data.
- A contactless NFC chip (eMRTD) – storing identity data securely.
- A clearly defined expiration date.
- Issuance by an official government authority.
Documents typically accepted include passports, national ID cards, and some residence permits.
Common reasons your document may not be accepted:
- The document does not have an MRZ.
- The document lacks a contactless NFC chip.
- The document was not issued under ICAO Doc 9303 standards.
- The document is a driver’s license or a non-biometric card.
⚠️ Exception: We do accept Dutch driving licences, as they contain an NFC chip and meet the required technical standards.
Other driving licences are not accepted, as they often lack an MRZ or chip.
- The document does not have an expiration date.
⚠️ Note: Some countries issue ID cards without an expiration date. Unfortunately, these cannot be accepted, as the verification process requires a valid expiration date to meet security and compliance requirements.
