If you are using an NFC-compatible device, the Digidentity app will upload your passport in two steps:
- Camera scan – the app scans the machine-readable zone (MRZ) of your passport.
- NFC scan – the app reads the chip embedded in your passport.
Both steps must be completed successfully before your identity document can be verified.
Important when scanning via NFC
Do not place your passport and phone on a metal surface, such as a laptop, docking station, metal desk, or metal table.
Metal can interfere with the NFC signal and prevent the chip from being read. Preferably use a wooden, plastic, or other non-metal surface.
Stage 1: Troubleshooting the camera scan
- Make sure there is enough light in the room.
- Open your passport on the photo page and place it on a flat surface.
- Hold your camera directly above the document.
- Make sure there are no shadows, reflections, or objects covering the code.
- Slowly move your phone closer and further away until the code is highlighted in green.
- Keep your phone steady while the details are being read.
Stage 2: Troubleshooting the chip reading process (NFC)
- Remove any covers or cases from both your phone and your passport.
- Close the passport completely.
- Place the passport on a non-metal surface.
- Slowly move your phone over the passport until the chip is recognised.
- Try different positions. The location of the NFC antenna differs per phone model.
- Try both the front and back of the passport.
- Keep your phone still once the chip is recognised.
Once the chip has been read successfully, your device will usually vibrate and the information will be processed automatically.
