eHerkenning is the official login solution for businesses and organisations in the Netherlands. It allows you to log in securely to many online services, including government platforms.
It is comparable to DigiD. However, while DigiD is intended for individuals, eHerkenning is designed for business use.
Why does eHerkenning exist?
Many online services may only be accessed by individuals who are authorised to act on behalf of an organisation.
With eHerkenning, service providers can be certain of your identity, which organisation you represent, and what actions you are permitted to perform.
How does eHerkenning work?
When you apply for eHerkenning, your identity is verified and your authorisation to act on behalf of an organisation is registered.
- You select Log in with eHerkenning at the service provider.
- You confirm your identity using an additional security step.
- Your authorisation is verified.
Only after these steps will you gain access to the online service.
Where can I use eHerkenning?
eHerkenning can be used to log in to more than 500 (government) service providers, including UWV, the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration, RDW and municipalities.

Is eHerkenning personal?
Yes. eHerkenning is personal and always issued in the name of one individual. It is linked to an organisation and a specific role or authorisation. You may therefore not share your account with others.
Which eHerkenning assurance levels are available?
There are different assurance levels, such as eHerkenning level 2+, 3 and 4. The required level is determined by the service provider you are accessing.
Do I need eHerkenning?
You need eHerkenning if you want to log in on behalf of an organisation to (government) services that require business authentication.
How secure is eHerkenning?
eHerkenning meets strict security standards. Your identity is verified, and logging in always includes additional security measures (multi-factor authentication).
