eHerkenning is the official login method for businesses and organisations in the Netherlands. With eHerkenning, you can log in securely to online services, including many government services.
You can compare eHerkenning to DigiD, but whereas DigiD is intended for private individuals, eHerkenning is intended for business use.
Why does eHerkenning exist?
Many online services may only be used by people who are authorised to act on behalf of an organisation.
With eHerkenning, service providers can be sure of who you are, which organisation you are acting for, and what you are allowed to do on behalf of that organisation.
How does an eHerkenning registration work?
During the application, we verify your identity and whether you are authorised to act on behalf of the organisation provided. We do this through an identification process that complies with applicable laws and regulations, and based on information from the Dutch Chamber of Commerce Trade Register.
The Trade Register (KvK) is the official source for organisation details within eHerkenning. Based on this, we verify who is authorised to represent the organisation.
- If you are registered as an authorised signatory, the authorisation can be issued directly
- If you are not registered as an authorised signatory, or only have limited authority, approval is required from one or more authorised representatives
Only after the correct authorities have been confirmed and any required authorisations have been approved will you receive the eHerkenning login method. This ensures that only authorised persons can act on behalf of the organisation
How does logging in with eHerkenning work?
Once you have obtained the login method, you can log in to service providers for which you are authorised. You always log in on behalf of the organisation for which you are authorised. This works as follows:
- Go to the website or portal of the service provider and choose log in with eHerkenning
- Choose Digidentity as your provider and scan the QR code with your Digidentity Wallet app
- Then confirm your login attempt with your 5-digit PIN code
- It is checked whether you have the correct authorisation. If so, you are logged in
Where can I use eHerkenning?

A complete and up-to-date overview can be found on the official eHerkenning website.
