eHerkenning is the official login solution for businesses and organisations in the Netherlands. It allows you to log in securely to many online (government) services.
It is comparable to DigiD, but while DigiD is intended for individuals, eHerkenning is designed for business use.
Why does eHerkenning exist?
Many online services may only be used by people who are authorised to act on behalf of an organisation.
With eHerkenning, service providers can be sure who you are, which organisation you represent, and what you are allowed to do.
How does eHerkenning work?
When you apply for eHerkenning, your identity is verified and your authorisation is recorded.
- You choose to log in with eHerkenning;
- You confirm your identity using an additional security step;
- Your authorisation is checked.
Only then do you gain access to the service.
Where can I use eHerkenning?
You can use eHerkenning to log in to more than 500 (government) service providers, such as UWV, the Tax and Customs Administration, RDW and municipalities.

Yes. eHerkenning is personal and always issued in the name of one individual. It is linked to an organisation and a specific role or authorisation. Therefore, you cannot share your account.
Which eHerkenning assurance levels are available?
eHerkenning has different assurance levels, such as level 2+, 3 and 4. The required level is determined by the service provider you log in to.
