Do you see the role employee in your account while you are listed as a director or owner in the Chamber of Commerce (KvK)? In most cases, this is expected.
Within Digidentity, we work with two roles: employee and Company Administrator.
Important: your role within Digidentity is not automatically determined by the Chamber of Commerce (KvK), but by the authorisations and permissions you have within our platform.
Why am I registered as an ‘employee’ while I am a director?
This is a common question.
Within Digidentity, you are linked to an organisation based on authorisations, for example for eHerkenning. These determine what you are allowed to do on behalf of an organisation.
Your role according to the Chamber of Commerce (such as director or owner) is not automatically applied.
Therefore, every user starts by default as an employee.
What is an employee?
An employee:
- Can use a product, such as eHerkenning, to act on behalf of the organisation
- Acts based on assigned authorisations
- Cannot manage users or permissions
This is the default role for all users.
What is a Company Administrator?
A Company Administrator has additional permissions and can:
- Manage users within the organisation
- Assign or adjust authorisations
- Manage subscriptions and products
- Invite new users
This is the role for the person responsible for managing access within the organisation.

To become a Company Administrator, you need to request this within your account.

Why is this not linked to the Chamber of Commerce (KvK)?
We verify Chamber of Commerce (KvK) data during an application, but not continuously. In addition, it is not always visible to us what role someone fulfils internally within an organisation.
That is why we work with roles and authorisations within Digidentity itself, instead of automatically following the Chamber of Commerce.
This keeps the system secure and flexible, even if your role within the organisation changes.
