When signing a document, using either an Advanced (AdES) or Qualified (QES) eSignature product, you are asked to log into your Digidentity account using the app and applicable smart card (Level 3 or Level 4 respectively). The smart card is digitally bound with a certificate (specific to the signature product) which has a limited validity period of one year. This means it will need to be renewed on a yearly basis, free of charge and separate from your product subscription.
To renew a certificate that is about to expire, you will need to renew the smart card used to log in to your account and sign documents.
Steps to renew your smart card
The steps to renew your smart card differ slightly depending on if you are accessing our web page on a computer, or on the mobile device where you have the Digidentity Wallet app installed. For steps to continue, please select your situation below:
I'm following these steps on a computer or laptop
- On your computer, go to https://my.digidentity.eu/
- Open the Digidentity Wallet app on your mobile device and scan the QR code shown
- In the 'Settings' section select 'Change two-factor authentication'
- In the 'Smart cards in your app' box, select 'Renew smart card'
- Open the Digidentity Wallet app once again and scan the QR code shown
- Enter a 5-digit PIN and then repeat it to create your new smart card
- You will then be asked to remove the old smart card by entering its 5-digit PIN
- To complete the renewal, in the 'Smart cards in your app' box on your computer, select 'Continue with transfer'
I'm following these steps on a mobile device
- Go to https://my.digidentity.eu/
- Tap 'Open app' to log in, then return to your web browser
- In the 'Settings' section select 'Change two-factor authentication'
- In the 'Smart cards in your app' box, select 'Renew smart card'
- Tap 'Open the app' and the Digidentity app will open automatically
- Enter a 5-digit PIN and then repeat it to create your new smart card
- You will then be asked to remove the old smart card by entering its 5-digit PIN
- To complete the renewal, return to your web browser and select 'Continue with transfer' from the 'Smart cards in your app' box
After completing your renewal, you will receive emails to confirm both that your previous certificate has been revoked and that you have made changes to your account.
