When you apply for a Digidentity product, we must verify your identity. This is required to comply with legal regulations and to prevent misuse.
Below you can read how our identity verification process works step by step.
1. Verification of your identity document
You will be asked to upload a valid identity document via the Digidentity Wallet app.
We verify:
- that your document is genuine (authenticity check);
- that your document has not expired;
- that it meets required security features.
Depending on the document type, you may be asked to:
- capture the data page of your document;
- capture the signature page;
- scan the document using NFC (chip reading).
2. Confirmation that the document belongs to you
After uploading your document, you will be asked to take a selfie.
Using facial comparison technology, we verify:
- that the person in the selfie matches the person in the identity document;
- that the image is not a photo of a screen or a printed copy.
3. Liveness check
During the selfie process, we also perform a liveness check.
This ensures that you are physically present during the verification and not attempting to use a photo, video, or manipulated image.
4. Automated and manual review
Most identity verifications are processed automatically.
In some cases, additional manual review may be required. This can happen if:
- additional assurance is required for higher levels.
What happens after your identity is verified?
Once your identity has been successfully verified, one of the following will happen:
- Your product will be issued immediately; or
- You will move to the next step of the registration process (for example, company verification or authorisation checks).
The exact next step depends on the product you are applying for.
Do I need to verify my identity again for future products?
In most cases, no.
Once your identity has been successfully verified, we can reuse this verification for future Digidentity products. This means you normally do not need to complete the identity verification process again.
However, additional verification may be required if:
- you apply for a product that requires a higher assurance level;
- the product requires NFC verification and this was not previously completed;
- legal or regulatory requirements require updated verification.
In such cases, you may be asked to complete additional identity checks.
How is your data processed?
Your data is processed securely and used solely for identity verification and authentication purposes.
Digidentity complies with applicable privacy and security regulations.
