When you apply for a Digidentity product, we must verify your identity. This is required by law and helps prevent identity fraud and misuse.
Below you can read how our identity verification process works and what you can expect during verification.
Good to know
Identity verification is usually only required once. After your identity has been successfully verified, we can often reuse this verification for future Digidentity products.
Why do I need to verify my identity?
Digidentity provides trusted digital identity services. To comply with legal and regulatory requirements, we must verify that you are who you claim to be before issuing certain products.
Identity verification also helps protect organisations and users against fraud, identity theft and unauthorised access.
What do you check on my identity document?
During the verification process, you will be asked to upload a valid identity document using the Digidentity Wallet app.
We verify:
- That the document is genuine and has not been tampered with.
- That the document has not expired.
- That the document contains the required security features.
Depending on the type of document, you may also be asked to:
- Capture the document data page.
- Capture the signature page.
- Perform an NFC scan of the chip embedded in the document.
Why do I need to take a selfie?
After uploading your identity document, you will be asked to take a selfie.
We use facial comparison technology to verify that:
- The person on the selfie matches the person shown on the identity document.
- The image is not a photo of a screen, printed document or copied image.
What is a liveness check?
During the selfie process we perform a liveness check.
This confirms that a real person is present during the verification process and helps prevent attempts to use photographs, videos or manipulated images.
Will a human review my verification?
Most identity verifications are completed automatically within minutes.
In some situations, additional manual review may be required. This is more common for products that require a higher level of assurance.
If manual review is necessary, our verification specialists will review the submitted information before a final decision is made.
What happens after my identity has been verified?
Once your identity has been successfully verified, one of the following will happen:
- Your product is issued immediately.
- You proceed to the next registration step, such as company verification or authorisation checks.
The next step depends on the specific product you are applying for.
Will I need to verify my identity again in the future?
Usually not.
Once your identity has been verified successfully, we can often reuse this verification for future Digidentity products.
Additional verification may be required if:
- You apply for a product that requires a higher assurance level.
- NFC verification is required and was not completed previously.
- Legal or regulatory requirements require updated verification.
How is my personal data processed?
Your data is processed securely and used solely for identity verification and authentication purposes.
Digidentity complies with applicable privacy and security regulations.
