Your PKIoverheid certificate (PKIo certificate) is provided as a password-protected PFX file.
IMPORTANT: You are responsible for downloading and securely storing both the certificate and its password. Digidentity does not keep a copy of your certificate and cannot retrieve or reset its password.
Have you lost the certificate or forgotten its password?
The certificate cannot be recovered. You must revoke the old certificate and request a new one.
Please note:
Requesting a new certificate is treated as a new order. The applicable certificate costs will normally be charged again.
Why can Digidentity not recover my certificate or password?
Digidentity does not store a copy of your PFX file or its password. Everything required to use the certificate remains exclusively in your possession.
We therefore cannot:
- Download the certificate again for you.
- Send you a copy of the certificate.
- View, retrieve or reset the certificate password.
This is part of the technical and security design of PKI certificates. The certificate and its password must remain under the certificate holder’s control.
Once the certificate has been downloaded, you are responsible for securely storing the PFX file and its password.
Will I have to pay for a new certificate?
Yes. If you lose the PFX file or forget its password, you must request and pay for a new certificate. The applicable fees will be charged.
In some cases, we may apply a discount to the new certificate based on the unused remaining validity period of the old certificate. We assess each request individually. A discount is not guaranteed, and previous discounts do not create an entitlement to future discounts.
Step 1: revoke the lost certificate
A lost certificate must first be revoked. This prevents someone else from using it:
- Go to Digidentity Self Service and log in.
- Select the relevant organisation.
- Click Certificates.
- Select the certificate you have lost.
- Click Revoke.
Step 2: request a new certificate
After revoking the old certificate, you can request a new one:
- Click Certificates.
- Click Request new certificate.
- Click Request next to the SBR certificate and follow the instructions.
- Download the certificate and click Save before leaving the page.
- Check your downloads folder and confirm that the PFX file was downloaded successfully.
- Store the PFX file and its password securely, preferably in separate secure locations.
This request is treated as a new order. The applicable certificate costs will normally be charged again.
Important: the certificate can be downloaded only once
You can download your certificate only once. Do not leave the download page until you have successfully saved the PFX file.
Before leaving the page, make sure that:
- The PFX file is present in your downloads folder.
- You have created a secure backup of the file.
- You have securely recorded the correct password.
- You can identify which certificate the file belongs to.
Digidentity cannot provide another copy of the same certificate and cannot reset its password. If you lose the certificate or its password, you must revoke the certificate and request a new, paid certificate.
Request for discount
Have you had to purchase a new SBR certificate because you lost the PFX file or its password? You may request a discount on the new certificate based on the unused remaining validity period of your old certificate.
Send the invoice for the new certificate to debiteuren@digidentity.com and explain what happened.
We assess each request individually. A discount is not guaranteed, and previous discounts do not create an entitlement to future discounts.
