Digidentity is a Qualified Trust Service Provider (QTSP). This means that all our services must comply with strict European and Dutch legislation. Therefore, every registration—regardless of which product you purchase—always begins with the same basic steps.
1. Identification of the person
We must confirm that you are truly the person requesting the product. This is done through:
- uploading your identity document (passport or ID card);
- taking selfies, including liveness detection (to verify that you are a real, physical person and not a photo or recording);
- automatic facial matching between the document and your selfie.
After successful identity verification, you gain access to the Digidentity app and the required certificates can be created.
2. Identification of the company
If you are requesting a product on behalf of a company, we verify:
- whether the company exists (via the Trade Register or a foreign registry);
- whether you are authorised to purchase products on behalf of the company.
If you are not authorised, the official signatory must provide permission. A letter of authorisation will be created automatically for this purpose.
3. Product issuance
After verifying both your personal and company identity, we can issue your product. Digidentity provides, among others:
- eHerkenning (levels 2+, 3 and 4);
- Digital signatures and seals (Advanced & Qualified eSignatures, Qualified Seals);
- Certificates (PKIo SBR certificate, PKIo Server Certificate, Professional Certificate, Automotive Authentication certificate).
Product components
Every Digidentity product consists of several fixed components. Depending on the product, an additional certificate may be included.
1. Subscription
This is the selected term and billing cycle of your product. The subscription length determines when you will receive a new invoice.
Please note: eHerkenning levels have different subscription types. More information can be found on the specific product pages.
2. Authorisation
The authorisation is the official permission that allows you to act and log in on behalf of your company.
Since 2022, authorisations have always been valid for 5 years. For older registrations (before 2022), the validity could be 1, 2, or 3 years. After renewal, the validity automatically becomes 5 years.
3. Authenticator
Your authenticator is the certificate created in the Digidentity app and used as your digital login method.
4. Additional certificate (if applicable)
Some products include an additional certificate that you download during the application process, such as:
- PKIo SBR certificate
- PKIo Server certificate
- Automotive Authentication certificate
These certificates must be renewed at the end of their validity period. You will automatically receive reminders when renewal is required.
Summary
Every Digidentity registration consists of a subscription, an authorisation, and an authenticator (login certificate). Depending on your product, an additional PKIo SBR or Automotive Authentication certificate may also be included.
- You pay for the subscription and any additional certificate products.
- You do not pay for renewing your authenticator or extending an authorisation.
- Your subscription begins once you complete the full registration process.
- If you do not complete the registration on the same day, the validity dates of your subscription, authorisation and certificates may differ, resulting in reminders being sent at different times.
