For the General Medical Council (GMC) identity verification process, only National Identity Cards issued by specific countries are accepted.
These requirements are determined by the GMC.
If you select National Identity Card during registration and your country does not appear in the list of available countries, this means that National Identity Cards issued by your country cannot be used for this verification process.
Which countries' National Identity Cards are accepted?
National Identity Cards issued by the following countries are currently accepted for GMC identity verification:
- Albania
- Argentina
- Austria
- Belarus
- Belgium
- Bosnia and Herzegovina
- Bulgaria
- Croatia
- Cyprus
- Czech Republic
- Estonia
- Finland
- France

What should I do if my country is not listed?
If your country is not listed above, you will need to use an alternative accepted identity document.
You can use one of the following:
- A valid passport (UK or non-UK).
- A full UK driving licence.
If you have one of these documents, return to the registration process and select the appropriate document type to continue your identity verification.
Don't have an alternative identity document?
Unfortunately, if your National Identity Card is not accepted and you do not have a valid passport or full UK driving licence, you will not be able to complete the GMC identity verification process through Digidentity.
