The Motor Vehicle Service and Repair Information Sharing Scheme (MVIS) is an Australian law that came into effect on 1 July 2022. It ensures that independent repairers have fair access to the same technical information as vehicle manufacturers and dealerships - allowing all workshops to safely service and repair modern vehicles, including electric (EV), hybrid, and hydrogen models.
For Autodata users, the main relevance of MVIS is around “Safety Information.”
This refers to any technical data relating to:
- High-voltage systems (e.g. EV battery circuits, orange cabling)
- Electric propulsion systems
- Hydrogen fuel systems
- Any components directly connected to those systems
Because of the potential danger these systems pose, the law requires that access to such Safety Information is restricted to verified individuals who are deemed “Fit and Proper” - meaning they have the right qualifications and identity credentials.
