To complete a Universal Credit claim, you will be asked to visit a local job centre. Verifying online before visiting will mean that your appointment at the job centre will be shorter. If you can't verify online, it is still possible to continue with your claim, but you will need to verify your identity in person.
Verifying in person at a job centre
To book an appointment to verify your identity in person and complete your claim, we recommend following the steps below:
- Log back into your Universal Credit account via https://www.gov.uk/sign-in-universal-credit
- In your To-do list, select the option 'I can't do this online'
- You should now see more information on how to continue with your claim and what documents to provide
- You can then call the number provided on that page to book
Can't visit a job centre?
If you can't verify online and you are unable to visit a job centre due to disability (or other exceptional circumstance), you may be eligible for a home visit. For more information, please contact Universal Credit directly.
