The following article is regarding UK driving licence details that have been entered on our web page. If you have uploaded a photo of your driving licence via the Digidentity app, please instead see: Why was my app upload rejected?
When you enter the details of a UK driving licence onto our web page using the manual form (ie. entering the details yourself), the details are checked and matched against a government-approved database. Please note that we can only verify valid UK photocard driving licences (full or provisional). We cannot accept paper licences.
Checking your details
If your UK licence has been rejected during this stage or the page states that the licence details are invalid, we advise you to double check the following details when filling out the form, keeping in mind that the information may be case-sensitive.
- Surname and Forename
Enter all your names into the relevant fields exactly as printed on your licence. - Date of birth
Check that the pre-filled date of birth is correct. - Issue and Expiry dates
Enter the issue and expiry dates printed on the front of your licence (shown next to categories 4a and 4b of the licence). These should be entered in DD/MM/YYYY format. Expired driving licences cannot be accepted. - Issuing authority
Make sure that you have selected the correct issuing authority, (i.e. DVLA, DVA, or DVLNI).
If you are not sure about your issuing authority, check the licence number: a DVLA licence number will be 16 characters long. A DVA or DVLNI licence number will be 8 numbers long. - Licence number
When entering your licence number, check that you have not mistaken any numerical 0's for capital letter O's, or numerical 1's for capital letter I's. - Issue number
You will only be asked for an issue number if you have a DVLA licence. This is the last two digits from your licence number (usually separated after a space or shown on a separate line). This should only be entered in the 'Issue number' field and should be left out of the 'Licence number' field. - Postcode
Enter the postcode stated on the front of your photocard.
How to try your driving licence details again
If you are no longer on our registration web page, for steps to log back in please see: How do I get back to my registration?
You will have three initial attempts to enter your driving licence details before our system moves on to another document. Later in the registration process you will also be given the option to verify the licence by uploading a photo of the document using the Digidentity app.
Licence details invalid?
If you have checked that all the details are correct and the page continues to say that your licence is invalid, it may be possible for you to complete your verification using a different combination of documents. To check if you can proceed without verifying a driving licence, please scroll to the bottom of the page, select the ‘Back’ link and state 'NO, I DON'T' to having a driving licence.
